New York - FREE Trek Tech Trek

It's called the Trek-Tech-Trek because it has all been made possible by the makers of Trek-Tech Tripods, the uniquely light-weight, fully integrated tripods with a special, quick mount-demount system. But there is a lot more to sweeten the deal, starting with 6 free cupcakes by Baked By Melissa. The day will begin around 9 am, at Digital Photo Academy Headquarters at 211 E 18th Street #2R (between 2nd and 3rd), where you will mix and mingle with our 5 New York Digital Photo Academy instructors. For our 1st Trek-Tech-Trek stop, we will travel down to Soho, to pick up our cupcakes and pose for some colorful photo ops at Baked By Melissa. We will be catching this all on video so don't be surprised if you end up on NY1 or some other local broadcasting. Can't eat 'em right away though, they will be your props for the photos that may win you $500. After we have picked up our tasty treats, everyone will break up into groups, led by our 5 instructors. Each group will have their own photo assistant and models, some legit fashion and others way out (believe it, you'll know them when you see them, and all have signed releases - don't worry you can mix and match them). The New York instructors will lead you through Soho and Lower Manhattan, directing the models for your lens work as you compete for the cash prizes and other rewards. Then its back to DPA Headquarters for you and the cupcakes, where we will have a studio set up with professional lighting equipment, to learn lighting techniques and macro photography. (Free food to eat too, not just cupcakes). And don't miss out on the old world architecture in the surrounding areas of DPA Headquarters as well as the vibrant energy of nearby Union Square. After lunch and the studio shoot, the event continues at Adorama. Here there will be special product demos and sales, while you fill out your entry forms for the photo contest which will be judged on July 15th. Check out the July Digital Photo Academy newsletter, to see who won and whether or not it was you.

Detroit - The Detroit Boat Club and Belle Isle

dtw_boatclub2.jpg

Join Digital Photo Academy Instructor Don Werthmann for an Advanced Sunrise Shoot at The Detroit Boat Club and Belle Island on Saturday June 13th. The Detroit Boat Club was founded by oarsman on February 18, 1839, it is the oldest continuous rowing club in the world, the oldest boating club in the United States and the oldest social club in Michigan. In addition to the Boat Club, you will also have the opportunity to shoot at America's largest city-owned island park, Belle Isle. Detroit's city fathers purchased the 983-acre island in 1879 for $200,000, against the opposition of those who thought the price was too high. They elected to retain the name Belle Isle (beautiful island) by which the property was popularly known. In 1883, the designer of New York City's Central Park, Frederick Law Olmstead, created the master plan for Belle Isle's transformation. Belle Isle and the surrounding area conveys a sense of other worldliness that provides a photographer with great creative latitude.
