San Diego - Summertime at the Beach

Join Digital Photo Academy Instructor Christian Michaels on Saturday July 25th 9am - 6pm for an Advanced Photo Workshop at the beach. Capture the essence of summer fun at a beach in San Diego. With a variety of characters and endless ambiance at the beach, there will be no shortage of subject matter to experiment with new and exciting photography techniques. Chris will be teaching techniques such as motion blurring, silhouetting, and composition along with other tips and tricks to make your images sizzle! Begin your day with instruction on location shooting and capturing images in various lighting conditions. Spend the majority of the day at the beach shooting your surroundings and finish up with a lesson on post capture manipulation and work flow, along with a critique of everyone's images from the day.

Philadelphia - Eastern State Penitentiary

Join Digital Photo Academy instructor Hinda Schuman on Sunday July 19th 9am - 6pm for a day of shooting at Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary. Hinda will guide you through an exploration of this historic building. Learn to creatively capture the essence of the decaying structure. You will begin your day with a lesson on photographing in various lighting conditions, particularly the dark, ambient light situations that you will encounter at the penitentiary. Everyone will spend most of the day shooting on location, have a break for lunch and finish up with a lesson on post capture manipulation and work flow as well as a critique.

New York - Sailing Trip

On Sunday July 26 John Bentham will lead a special Advanced Workshop aboard the historic wooden sailing vessel, The Ventura. Departing from The World Financial Center in lower Manhattan, we will cruise New York Harbor for 3 hours. Following the cruise, a break for lunch, and the workshop continues to 5pm. This special workshop is open to students, AND the cruise is open to their family, or friends. With a maximum of 15 students, and a total maximum of 35 passengers, this workshop will sell out fast. The New York Times, Harpers Bazaar, Nautica, Good Morning America, J. Crew and the NY Post have all staged location shoots on Ventura, and scenes from the major motion picture, Hitch, starring Will Smith were filmed aboard Ventura. This is a great looking boat, not to mention the backdrop of NY City. Sunday July 26, boarding begins at 8:15am SHARP, followed by a 3 hour morning cruise. 8:30 to 11:30am. Open to 15 workshop students AND their families or guests.

New York - Gradisca Restaurant

Join DPA instructor John Bentham on Sunday July 12, 2009 10am to 7pm for a day of shooting at Gradisca Italian Restaurant. The focus of the workshop will be location lighting, portraits, environmental portraits and food shooting. John will give lessons on how to walk into a room and find the shot. How to position your subjects and light quickly but effectively. We will shoot the chef and staff prepping in the kitchen, knives, sage and parmesan flying. Strobe lighting will be provided. Workshop begins at 10am, restaurant location shoot begins at 2pm. We will then eat the food we shoot. Following a highly successful restaurant photo workshop on the Lower East Side, John Bentham once again provides Advanced Digital Photo Academy photography students with an opportunity to Shoot it and Eat it. This time in historic Greenwich Village shooting at Gradisca, an authentic Italian restaurant (and one of Johns favorite restaurants). Named after the convivial character in the Fellini movie, Aamaracord, Gradisca first opened in 2000. Using only the freshest ingredients and serving only homemade pastas, owner Massimo Gateano, and chef Matteo Boglione, ensure that every meal that leaves their kitchen expresses the soul of authentic Italian cooking. You can often see Mama making the pasta by hand before, and during dinner, she never stops.

Minneapolis - Stone Arch Bridge

Join Digital Photo Academy Instructor Tony Schreck on Sunday July 26th, 9am-6pm for a day at the Stone Arch Bridge for views of the Minneapolis skyline. We will also photograph the historic Mill City Ruins Park, Gold Medal Park and at the new home of the Guthrie Theatre. We will discuss the use of circular polarizers, composition and creative camera techniques. There are also some great spots to discuss portrait photography as well.

Los Angeles - Botanical Garden

Join Digital Photo Academy Instructor Chuck Place on Saturday July 25th 9am - 6pm for a day at the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden. Parks and botanic gardens offer a wealth of subjects to photographers, from flowers and butterflies to sweeping landscapes. Chuck will cover a range of topics, from lens choice, including macro lenses, extension tubes and Lensbabies, to the use of diffusers, reflectors and TTL flash units. Learn to shoot Macro photography as well as landscapes in various lighting conditions, with assorted professional lighting equipment such as flash, reflectors and fill cards. Students will meet at Image Mechanic in Santa Monica for a short presentation, spend the day at the garden, and head back to Image Mechanics for image prep and critique.

Boston - Zoo

Join DPA instructor Frank Siteman for an Advanced Workshop at the Boston Zoo on Saturday July 11th from 9am to 6pm. You will start off the day with a lesson on shooting with both natural and artificial light on location at the zoo. Get professional tips on shooting animals, using various types of lens and other photo accessories. Explore the zoo, shooting along side a professional photographer receiving advice and critique in real time. At the end of the day Frank will go over post capture work flow as well as some Photoshop editing.
